When Mr and Mrs Hyslop began planning their new kitchen, they wanted a space that felt timeless yet modern, combining a traditional country-style look with sleek contemporary elements. As this was a new build home, the challenge was designing a kitchen that would fill the large open-plan space beautifully without feeling overwhelming, while still delivering the “wow factor” they were hoping for.

Working closely with Dave at our Stranraer showroom, the design process was carefully developed over time. The couple never felt rushed and valued Dave’s patience, experience and ideas throughout the project. They mentioned that they instantly clicked with Dave and appreciated how he was always available to answer questions and suggest ideas they hadn’t considered themselves.

The final design centres around a large island, which acts as the focal point of the room and brings both practicality and visual impact to the space

The kitchen features the Wardley shaker range, crafted from solid painted ash for durability and timeless character. The two-tone combination of French Clay and Thyme cabinetry adds depth while keeping the room light and open. Traditional shaker detailing is balanced with subtle modern touches, including Fold D Inox handles, integrated appliances and clean lines that give the kitchen a refined, contemporary edge.

To soften the space within the large open-plan layout, tongue and groove panels and curved corners were incorporated into the design, helping to create a welcoming and balanced feel.

The worktops are finished in Quartz Blanco Maple, a bright and durable surface that enhances the airy feel of the room. The extra-large island sits at the heart of the kitchen, providing generous preparation space while also acting as a natural gathering point. Draining grooves have been carved directly into the quartz, creating a seamless and practical finish.

Two sinks have been thoughtfully positioned to suit everyday use. One is paired with a Franke silk steel tap, while the second features a Quooker Flex tap, delivering instant boiling water at the touch of a button – a practical addition for busy households

Storage was an important consideration within the design. A pull-out shelved larder beside the American-style fridge freezer keeps ingredients and essentials neatly organised while maintaining a clean, uncluttered look. All appliances are fully integrated, including a Neff dishwasher and Luxair extractor, ensuring the kitchen maintains a seamless appearance.

The adjoining utility room continues the same thoughtful design approach, proving that practical spaces can be just as stylish as the kitchen itself.

Ambleside Fern cabinetry is paired with an Integra Ascoli Natural Oak wall unit, bringing warmth and texture into the space. Black granite worktops create a striking contrast against the green tones, giving the room a sleek, sophisticated feel.

A corner pantry maximises storage, while the washer and dryer are stacked vertically to make the best use of space. A pull-out drawer provides a practical area for sorting and folding laundry.

Hamstead black D handles, a Carron Debut Onyx sink, and a Franke matt black tap complete the design, tying the room together with coordinated, contemporary finishes.
